- One Cum = 35.314 Cft
- One Acres = 4046.873
- Sqm = 43560.17
- Sft = 4840.019Yards

#### For Adding 4 Liters of Water in 1 Cu.m Freshly Mixed Concrete

- The slump value will be increased by 25 mm.
- The compressive strength of concrete will be decreased by 1.5 to 2.0 N/mm2
- The shrinkage potential will be increased by 10%.
- 1/4 bag of cement will be wasted.

#### If the Temperature of Freshly Mixed Concrete Is Increased by 1%, Then

- 4 liters of water per cu.m will give equal slump.
- The air content will be decreased by 1%.
- The compressive strength of concrete will be decreased by 1.0 to 1.5 N/mm2.

#### If the Air Content of Freshly Mixed Concrete Is

- Increased by 1% then the compressive strength will be decreased by 5 %.
- Decreased by 1%, the yield will be decreased by 0.03 cu.m per 1 cu.m.
- Decreased by 1%, then the slump value will be decreased by about 12.5 mm.
- Decreased by 1%, then the durability of the concrete will be reduced by 10%.

### Rule of Thumb Construction Cost Estimating

A rule of thumb method in cost estimating is drawn from design or practical experience and it provides a rough guide to come up with quantities during the initial stages of design like the concept or schematic phases. The rule of thumb is **a method for developing quick approximate estimates of costs**.

### Thumb Rule Formula

The Thumb rule to determine the area of shuttering needed is **2.4 times the plinth area or six times the concrete quantity**. Consider, the quantity of concrete is one cubic meter, then the shuttering area needed is 1 x 6 = 6 square meters.

### Steel Column Size Rule of Thumb

**A column size depends on the floor area it is supporting**; this floor area is calculated by subdividing the distance between the column and all adjacent columns. This area is cumulative from floor to floor. A 6×6 column can support 750 sq. ft; a 8×8 column can support 3000 sq.

### What Is a Good Thumb Rule?

A rule of thumb is **a guideline, idea, or principle that helps you make decisions**. “Arrive early” is a good rule of thumb for most appointments. This term originally referred to builders who used their thumb to estimate measurements. The meaning broadened to mean any inexact but helpful rule.
